The mission started and ended in 1988 after you found something peculiar in the martian soil hundreds of years ago. You were just left to rot under the unforgiving Mars atmosphere.

In 1988, the Auriga rover touched down on Mars with a simple job: survey the dirt, snap some photos, and phone home. But after pinging an impossible organic signature, Earth suddenly cut the feed. Abandoned and ignored, Auriga slipped into deep hibernation beneath the red dust.

Centuries later, in 2338, a reclamation crew finally digs up your core. That ancient secret you found? It earns you a brand-new chassis and a one-way ticket to Tau Ceti f, as a scout for the Von Neumann probes.

AURIGA is a slow-burn, atmospheric exploration game where every meter matters. You aren't an action hero—you're a fragile, multi-million-dollar scientific instrument. Equipped with a mast camera, spectrometer, and heavy-duty drill, you'll chart unforgiving landscapes. Whether you're carefully plotting autonomous routes from orbit or manually inching over jagged rocks, the terrain is your biggest enemy.

Damage here is physical and localized. Slam down too hard and your wheels lose traction. Clip a boulder and your camera feed scrambles. Snap your high-gain antenna and data uploads will slow to an agonizing crawl. If you take enough of a beating, vital parts will literally break off your chassis. (Fortunately, your 24th-century missions come with a few perks, like orbital supply drops, modular upgrades, and replacement gear).

Behind the scenes, the game uses a complex procedural engine that mixes gravity, temperature, geology, and atmospheric variables to generate bizarre, beautiful planets—think boiling vacuums, or freezing, lifeless tundras trapped under a bright blue sky.

Game Features:

  • A Sprawling Timeline: Play Story Mode to follow Auriga's lonely arc across 1988 Mars, 2338 Mars, and 2341 Tau Ceti f.
  • Endless Sandbox: Take on repeatable survey contracts across infinitely seeded worlds spanning two different technological eras.
  • Hard Science Gameplay: Manage your battery, drill for core samples, monitor atmospheric hazards, and catalogue your discoveries in the science database.
